BluePoint Drone pinpoints Marine Plastic Waste

Propelor recently joined the BluePoint Project consortium meeting at the University of Limerick, aiming to create a Blue Circular Economy of Marine Plastics. Over two days, partners shared their unique approaches to tackling marine plastic pollution. The CRIS team from UL showcased their pilot-phase technological solutions for identifying and collecting beach plastic waste, connecting people with technology to turn environmental challenges into opportunities.

At Spanish Point beach in County Clare, the CRIS team demonstrated their drones and the BluePoint app in action, impressively identifying and collecting plastic waste. Propelor is excited to use this technology along the southeast beaches to gather essential data on plastic waste levels.

We also heard from Dr.John Treacy of Clare County Council, who passionately discussed the use of innovative technology in local heritage projects, highlighting the broader impact of these advancements. Additionally, Sharon Barrington from IFF shared her visionary project, which transforms marine and fishing plastic into a sustainable business model, highlighting how innovation can create economic opportunities.

The meeting celebrated innovation, collaboration, and the beautiful Irish coast. Special thanks to Gerard Dooly, Isela Ibrahimovic, and the CRIS team for their warm hospitality. For more information about BluePoint please visit https://www.bluepointproject.eu/ or contact michelle@propelorbic.ie.
